Description

Return to Nurse Molly comics page.

Previous page: Nurse Molly, organ transplant 17/n by Debit | Next page: Nurse Molly, organ transplant 19/n by Debit

Subtitle: Onslaught I.

Surface: Moleskine A4 notebook.
Pen: Pilot/Namiki Vanishing Point, fine nib.

Debit: I guess everyone gets the piece of the action.

Molly: Yes, indeed. What is the point of having the girls to endure hard training, if they do not get to use it?

Vickie: Use it, or lose it, right?

Molly: Yeah. I guess that is one of the downside of this job. You have to stay strong and alert. Not for everybody.

Vickie: Well, they seem to be making progress.

Molly: This is only the beginning. We will encounter more of Mr. Roughwallop's men. By now, unless they are deaf and blind, they must have realized what is taking place.

Vickie: What should we do once we start encountering more heavily armed men?

Molly: Remember, we are here to take as many prisoners as possible, and taking Mr. Roughwallop alive. Accumulating body counts in this place is going to be a fodder for a bad press. We would not want that, even if they try to hose us down.

Vickie: Now that combat is in full swing, too bad, we cannot resort to heavy weapons of our own.

Molly: We would then be accused of crimes against humanity. The press has a nasty habit of jumping to opinions before putting together the facts into proper context. Hahahaha!

Vickie: Yeah, I know. Nurses aren't supposed to go on rampage.

Molly: With the exception of the nurses of the City State of Totenheim. We are nonconformists and we leap beyond expectations!

Vickie: No wonder why most of our neighbors either fear or hate us.

This page:

1. Lack of multiple panels: I think having only one big panel makes a bigger statement, which is particularly suited for rendering something drastic like combat, or when lots of actions are taking place in the same locality.

2. Indeed, these nurses have trespassed into Mr. Roughwallop's turf to gather prisoners. Hence, they are not carrying out actions beyond what is necessary to subdue his men.

3. The two nurses in the foreground have too many hatching marks over their faces, especially around their eyes. At first, I thought I made a mistake by doing too much shading. However, I decided to keep them as they are as a means to suggest that they are busy fighting and thus they would have rough appearance.

4. The three nurses situated toward the right side: they might make good candidates for defensive backs (American football), though the kind of tackling the nurse directly in front of the man (he has just fumbled his knife!) is illegal today (but not so in the past).

5. The man on the left climbing the tall cylindrical structure: 'Oh, crap!' moment. There is a nurse directly below him in full pursuit. He has nowhere else to go, unless he is willing to jump off and risk severe injury.

6. Lots of stippling with elaborate patterns in particular were used to attempt making this page feel rather crowded, and perhaps even somewhat disoriented.

7. The numbers show on the cylindrical structure on the left: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, A, C. A and C were used instead of 10 and 12, respectively, out of convenience (less work!). Hexadecimal numbers!

8. Finally, we get to see a syringe in actual use: the man on the right bottom is receiving a shot, on his ass. Aaaaaaaaaaargh! :D

Whoooo they're officially badasses!

Yes, this is definitely dramatic. :wow: I love how there's a lot to look at in this page! The expressions, the body language, and the positioning of all the subjects are perfectly put together! And the setting/framing effect is really quite wonderful  How long does it take you to do a page? I think I've asked this before. The violence is sort of fitting, as I have Django Unchained playing in the background.

The details on their clothing...!!! You are amazing.

And ouch! I feel so bad for the poor guy in front!
