Description

Return to Nurse Molly comics page.

Previous page: Nurse Molly, organ transplant 18/n by Debit | Next page: Nurse Molly, organ transplant 20/n by Debit

Subtitle: Onslaught II.

Surface: Moleskine A4 notebook.
Pen: Pilot/Namiki Vanishing Point, fine nib.

Molly: Well, it appears that the girls can take care of themselves pretty well without the need to pester them.

Vickie: Yeah, so it seems.

Molly: Okey dokey. I am going to take a smoke break for a minute or two.

Vickie: Very well.

Molly: (Steps aside and takes out a cigarette. She is about to slips it in between her lips.)

Molly: (Turns toward the scene of the carnage, only to become startled. The cigarette slips out of her fingers.) My Devil in Hell! Vickie, what the hell is going on?

Vickie: Well, I'm going to do some exercise while you're away.

Molly: Hey, you are the gentler of the two of us. That is not part of your role!

Vickie: Says who? Do you expect me to play a passive role, 24 hours, 7 days per week?

Molly: Get off of him! That is my job.

Vickie: First come, first serve, Molly. Shut up and enjoy a brief date with your cigarette. :P

Molly: You .......... I will get you for this!

In this page ...

1. When I started working on the preparatory pencil sketch, I wondered what would it be like to have Vickie join the fray. Well ... there is only one way to find out; draw Vickie and see what happens!

2. As soon as Vickie was penciled in, an immediate thought was Molly's reaction to Vickie. Up to now, Vickie has been a mild-mannered supporting cast to Molly. But with Vickie taking up a role that is outside her character concept, why not have Molly startled? In this instance, the free-falling cigarette was drawn in order to suggest that Molly was indeed startled.

3. Ooooooh! The man in the foreground is ... DOOMED. He is under attack from multiple directions. While Vickie's thighs are closing in on his neck, the right heel of the boot is getting rather close to his groin. In addition, the nurse behind him is reaching out for the very same place with her left hand while her right knee is directly below it. He apparently has an impressive-looking assault rifle. Unfortunately, it cannot save him. :P

4. The man on the bottom right is in the process of getting captured. He should be all right, as long as he does not make any abrupt move. The nurse whose left foot is weighing down on his back does not appear to be smiling, and she is holding a syringe gun.

5. The man in the background must have just received a shot! Not only his eyes are squeezed shut, his mouth is wide open, in addition to jumping like there is no tomorrow. Needless to say, there is a syringe directly underneath and pointing straight at his rear-end.

6. As in the previous pages, the bulk of the clock has been chewed up by stippling. This time around, the gradients in the background were rendered to match the circular bridge-like structures in the upper left portion of this page.

7. In the right-center, there are two back-to-back reinforced iron beams, each with a car.  They were added as an attempt to add some depth.

8. I think I messed up with Molly a bit.  Although only a portion of Molly is visible in this page, the lower half of her body seems a bit too long.

At some point in the near future, I should take some snapshots of a work in process.  In this way, everyone can see how I build up a page: (1) Setting up the margins; (2) Penciling in animate objects, predominantly characters, their belongings, and vehicles; (3) Series of stippling to fill out the rest of the page.  Art is not quite about just turning in finished products; how a work is put together is more important.
